"I tried to order 2 pairs of shoes. Before I could review the order they charged my card and never got an email. I was on hold with customer service for over an hour. They refunded the amount but then charged my card again for the 2nd time after the money was back in the card."
Current Employee - Sales Associate says"Basically everything about the job"
Former Employee - Sales Associate says"They expect a lot out of you, everyone wants to constantly criticize everyone else behind their back, turnover rate was insane. I didn’t know my coworkers names half the time because they were constantly moving to different stores. For the amount of work you do, you should get paid more."
Former Employee - Manager Trainee says"High turnover rate. I should have known what I was getting myself into. But just like any other job, some days were good and some days not so good. For the most part it was an okay job but the stress of the job was just not worth the pay and hours."
Former Employee - Sales Associate says"some problems in the employee's evaluation system. Beware of the mystery shoppers, some of they are not impartial and you can get fired without a reasonable reason"
Former Employee - Assistant Manager says"Short staff Low pay Lots of lifting Felt like I was working in a warehouse rather than focusing on customer service"
Former Employee - Sales Associate says"Not enough hours, no room for growth, management shady"
Current Employee - Sales Associate says"Does not value employees"
Former Employee - Salesperson says"Incompetent management, Lack of training"
Current Employee - Sales Associate says"- Unrealistic sales goals. You have to make a 75% customer rewards goals. Many of the customers are really young or really old. They say no before you can even ask. I've seen some co-workers sign people up without their permission just to keep the goal up. The customer service becomes more about meeting the goal than servicing the customer. I've seen sales associates taken off register duties, because they were "bringing down" the customer rewards goal. Priorities are all messed up! - Rude Customers - Terrible Store and Upper Management - Favoritism - Racial profiling (at my store at least)"
Former Employee - Manager says"Horrible pay and even worse management"
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"Management belittled me. Would always find something to complain to me about. They were hard on me but when new hires would come in, they wouldnt say anything to them and made me pick up after them. I saw 6 people walk out after only being hired a week in the 6 months I was there. You were almost never allowed to miss work unless you had a doctors note. Even if they saw you sick, they would still require it. If you didnt have one for anytimee you didnt call out, you got a point against you. didnt care. Bow, some locations might be great, but my location was horrible bow, other locations might not be as bad, but my location was absolutely horrible."
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"Very unorganized. Boss takes his job too serious to the point he’s making everyone else’s lives miserable if one shoe is out of order. No hours. Every two weeks you might make $300. If you only have 28 hours that week expect to have lunches took out. Even if your busy on top of a ladder in the back you have to break your neck to get down just to say hello within 5 seconds of them walking through doorDiscount on shoesEverything else"
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"Management is terrible, expecting new hires to have a photographic memory. There is a culture of mean girls in the building. These girls, like the district manager don't have families and only live to work. So if you have a family, or a nice person, you will never fit in and they will make it their mission to run you out of company. The District Manager makes promises about career advancement that she never intends to keep."
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) says"Terrible place to work!! Management is poor and has no sense of direction!!! Will definitely run off the best employees and have them not even want to shop there.DiscountEverything else!!!"
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"This was my first job and although it was nice because i was allowed to work seasonally because of school, it still was not a good experience. The manager had very obvious favorites with employees and other managers. She would allow other managers to make all of the schedules and they would cut your hours simply because they didnt like you. Very immature and unproffessional.None"
Sales Representative (Former Employee) says"New management is young, she doesn’t know how to run a store. I’m guessing it’s too stressful for her. She has favorites it the store, you’ll know bc they’ll get all the hours. If you just need some extra cash I’d work here. You couldn’t survive at this job trying to pay bills. You literally do nothing all dayPay is horrible. You can work 30+ hours a week and only have $200 pay check"
Manager Trainee (Former Employee) says"I worked for the company for 12 years. The first 8 were pretty good. The pay is horrible and I was in management. Promised promotions, never got them. New management took over and is totally clueless as to what needs to be done. It's more of a boot camp now rather than a work place. If you're looking to be degraded and to be made feel less than your worth it's the perfect place.Pre new managementUnorganized, lack of communication."
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"Honestly , this job will never be able to keep their employees because of the bad Pay. They also treat their employees like they’re not an important asset to the company."
sales associate (Former Employee) says"clock in and go to given zone and watch over zone and help customers in zone I learned how to use a cash register the hardest part was leaving the people I grew close to"
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"I worked there for longer than a year, i was an assistant manager and hated everything about working at rack room shoes. It was not because of what you physically must do, it was because of the manager who is not happy with themselves so they must make their employees stressed every work day. She will step over boundaries and does not care. Retail can be fun and fast paced, rack room shoes is an awesome company themselves... JUST DON'T WORK IN TURLOCK WITH THAT MANAGER THERE. FIND ANOTHER LOCATION.Discountmanagement"
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"The store manager of Smithfield NC is narcissistic. Also he hire nothing but young girls 17-22 as the manger. Not a mature work environment. If you are in high school this is ideal for you.NothingManagement"
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"New store in yulee fla, I got to work there 2 days for grand opening, I was fired, they said I moved to slow and didn't tag the left shoe properly, I have never done shoe stores in my 15 years of experience, when I was hired I was told I would be in a management position, but changed there minds without letting people know. This is a new store in a small small community, word travels fast. District manager is rude Store management is even ruder. I will never shop there.Look at shoesBad management"
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"good place to work, great environment, not a lot you are expected to do. also no hours are given, and there are none to be had. they hire to many people and then everyone has little hours"
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"I was thrown into management and not trained. After speaking to my superiors i was not given any feedback. I was not told anything. I was thrown into the deep end and then nothing happended. Management has no love for new people. I was not qualified for the job then all of a sudden I was expected to know everything. Pay is horrible and the job is intense. do NOT WORK HERE.NoneLow pay."
Manager Trainee (Current Employee) says"Work day repetitive; management unprofessional; workplace culture problematic with the expectation of never needing time off; hardest part of the job is pettiness of management.Close proximity to home.Inadequate breaks, low pay, problematic managers."
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"Rack Room Shoes was my first job. The assistant manager could be nice but he was very unstable. He could be friendly or snap at you for little things, like the computer freezing. It was clear there was favoritism in the workplace. Getting more than 15 hours in a week is almost impossible and the drama is ridiculous. I was terminated with no reason given.Nothing.Little to no breaks. Constantly standing on feet. Unstable management. Low pay"
HEAD CASHIER (Former Employee) says"If you have a passion for retail, please do not invest your time into this company. The work environment is wonderful. It is the people that you are surrounded by that make you not want to work the job.fast paced work environmentmanagement sucks"
Sales Associate (Current Employee) says"management hires friends and gives hours based on who they like the most not based on job performance. When brought up to upper management, manager was disciplined, and then continued to cut my hours and give them to her friend.40% offextremely short breaks, drama worse than HS, favoritism"
Head Sales Representative (Former Employee) says"Part time job while I was attending school. not much other than its a good first job for high school students. Fun and relaxed not much place for advancement."
Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"Rack room is a terrible place to work and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone the managers do not inform you of schedule changes and are very unfair. Also the manager was having an affair with an employee and was showing him favoritism"
