Rack Room Shoes is an American footwear retailer headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company was founded in 1920 in Salisbury, North Carolina by Phil Levinson, who sold it to his son-in-law, Mort Lerner. It was bought in 1984 by the privately held Deichmann Group of Germany. Until that time Rack Room Shoes ran 22 stores.

"I tried to order 2 pairs of shoes. Before I could review the order they charged my card and never got an email. I was on hold with customer service for over an hour. They refunded the amount but then charged my card again for the 2nd time after the money was back in the card."

"They expect a lot out of you, everyone wants to constantly criticize everyone else behind their back, turnover rate was insane. I didn’t know my coworkers names half the time because they were constantly moving to different stores. For the amount of work you do, you should get paid more."

"- Unrealistic sales goals. You have to make a 75% customer rewards goals. Many of the customers are really young or really old. They say no before you can even ask. I've seen some co-workers sign people up without their permission just to keep the goal up. The customer service becomes more about meeting the goal than servicing the customer. I've seen sales associates taken off register duties, because they were "bringing down" the customer rewards goal. Priorities are all messed up! - Rude Customers - Terrible Store and Upper Management - Favoritism - Racial profiling (at my store at least)"

"Management belittled me. Would always find something to complain to me about. They were hard on me but when new hires would come in, they wouldnt say anything to them and made me pick up after them. I saw 6 people walk out after only being hired a week in the 6 months I was there. You were almost never allowed to miss work unless you had a doctors note. Even if they saw you sick, they would still require it. If you didnt have one for anytimee you didnt call out, you got a point against you. didnt care. Bow, some locations might be great, but my location was horrible bow, other locations might not be as bad, but my location was absolutely horrible."

"Very unorganized. Boss takes his job too serious to the point he’s making everyone else’s lives miserable if one shoe is out of order. No hours. Every two weeks you might make $300. If you only have 28 hours that week expect to have lunches took out. "Management is terrible, expecting new hires to have a photographic memory. There is a culture of mean girls in the building. These girls, like the district manager don't have families and only live to work. So if you have a family, or a nice person, you will never fit in and they will make it their mission to run you out of company. "I worked for the company for 12 years. The first 8 were pretty good. The pay is horrible and I was in management. Promised promotions, never got them. New management took over and is totally clueless as to what needs to be done. It's more of a boot camp now rather than a work place. "I worked there for longer than a year, i was an assistant manager and hated everything about working at rack room shoes. It was not because of what you physically must do, it was because of the manager who is not happy with themselves so they must make their employees stressed every work day. She will step over boundaries and does not care. Retail can be fun and fast paced, rack room shoes is an awesome company themselves... JUST DON'T WORK IN TURLOCK WITH THAT MANAGER THERE.
